This year started off quite slow for me. I haven’t done much but relax and lounge around the house for the past few weeks but, now I’m back and ready to jump into the awesomeness that will be 2012. To kick things off I’ve made a little New Year Vlog:

If you’ve been following me on Twitter then you’ll know all about my recent dramas and why I decided to rid myself of all my hair. I’m actually starting to like this look What do you guys think? Is the short trim the hotness or do you prefer my longer emo hair?

I know that I’ve said this before but, I do plan on making regular vlog videos. On top of focussing on publishing more fashion and personal blog content I really want to get into the regular vlog thing this year.

Here are some of my goals for 2012:

• Finish Ashworth College courses before my 25th birthday.
• Blog more about Fashion and my personal life.
• Learn how to play the piano (already in progress).
• Continue with voice training and record at least one song.

You know that I wanted an iPhone, iPad or Macbook Pro for xmas, I blogged about it here. But unfortunately I didn’t get any of that even though I asked Santa and mom and dad very nicely. So, to emphasize my misfortune in not getting what I want, I’d like to share with you this really awesome song:

So sorry for my lack of blog posts this past week, but I’ve been working on a few other things, including a new theme/layout for my blog. After wasting a lot of time and trashing more than 20 different mockups I’ve decided to just stick with that I have for now.

I know that there is a lot of wasted space, but until I get around to finding or creating a new layout that’s actually good enough, you’ll just have to get over your annoyances with the white space at the left side of the articles. Anyway…

I’m in desperate need of a job, and by “job” I don’t mean the old-school nine to five boring sheep work – I’m too pretty to work. What I need is a few more freelance web/graphic design or writing/editorial projects, some acting/modeling casting calls wouldn’t hurt either, but alas, the last two months have been dead-quiet and I’m slowly going broke and being forced to rely on my parents for everything, which is not hot. What to do? If you know of anyone in need of web/graphic design, writing, editorial, actor or model,please send them my way, or even better yet; direct them to my LinkedIN and StarNow profiles.

While I’m good at many things, unfortunately making money doesn’t seem to be one of them, but instead of waiting for my ship to come in, I’m trying my best to build my own ship. Here’s hoping it won’t take too long because I’m craving success. I need it NOW!

I’m officially in the happiest of happy moods. I haven’t been this happy since I found Jesus! the day I decided to take control of my own life. Good things are happening, and by good I mean… Really FUCKING AMAZING! I never thought I’d feel this great, this high, without narcotics. I’ve been a very good boy this year. Wait, that’s a lie… I’ve been a little bit naughty, but my boyfriend already punished me in ways which I cannot share with you. Rest assured that I’ve received fair punishment for my naughty deeds and that I’m now filled up with nothing but goodness. So, please would you send me the following goodies for Christmas…

• Apple iPhone 4S
  So that I take great pictures and make awesome videos for my blog. There are hundreds of really cool iOS apps that I already downloaded, it would be nice to actually have an iOS device.

• Apple iPad 2
  So that I can save the planet by reading e-books and digital magazines instead of cutting down trees for printing physical paper books and magazines. Also, I think that the iPad is just really cool and therefore I really want one.

• Apple Macbook Pro
  So that I can blog on-the-go, not being chained to my desk. With one of these I’ll also be able to go write in my favorite places of relaxation and mediation, like the garden, the local park, or a coffee shop offering “bottomless” coffees and teas. This will make writing a lot easier, since being stuck at a desk causes major writers-block.

If you give me the above, I promise to be a “good boy” until next Christmas. I know that this may seem a bit demanding since there are so many other boys out there who also want the same, so even if I can only get one of the above, that’ll make life a whole lot better!

We’re nearing the end of yet another year. I felt quite anxious this morning, sitting here thinking “What have I done all year?” – I’m still not finished with my Ashworth College course materials, heck I’m not even half way. I’m still living the simple life, my blogging hasn’t made me rich yet. And I’m still living with my parents. Just thinking about all this is cause enough for wanting to pop some happy-pills and forget about it all.

But guess what? I’m actually quite happy with my current circumstances, happier than I’ve ever been in a long time because I am now doing what I love doing, at my pace, without comparing myself to stressed, unhappy over-achievers. I’m no longer taking antidepressants, I’ve started singing again, my online presence is growing by the day and I’m enjoying every minute of it. Life is good and I’m happy with what I have accomplished through 2011.

I’m dedicating the month of December not to a holiday, but to planning and working towards personal goals for the next year. Knowing that it is possible to build a life from doing what I love doing, it’s now time to step up to the next level.

Thank you all for following my life/blog/tweets and I hope that you enjoy the last month of 2011. It’s never too late to really do what you want to do. Take control of your life, make your dreams come true!

A few years ago I started chatting to this really cool guy, and eventually we decided to meet in person. This was to be a purely platonic meet-up as I was in a happy relationship, and like now, just wanted to get out there to meet some “real” friends. To stress the fact that I was happily partnered; I invited my boyfriend along.

We had some interesting discussions over cocktails, but the more we talked, the more the guy started focusing only on what my boyfriend had to say. Eventually I had to freshen up, so I excused myself and left my new friend with my boyfriend. When I returned things felt really awkward and we politely decided to call it a night.

On our way home, my boyfriend told me that my new friend had told him that I’m “too eccentric” for who I am. For a long time it really bothered me that this guy was so eager to meet me, but upon meeting me he quickly lost interest, and told my boyfriend behind my back that I’m “too eccentric” - I’ve had that effect on many people, I’m either too much of  ”this or that.”

There is a saying; “Why try so hard to fit in when you were born to stand out?” – This is true for me. I’ve come to a place in my life where I’m perfectly happy and content with being “eccentric” and I no longer care what people have to say about me behind my back because I know who I am, I’m proud of who I am, and I know that there are people out there who love me for being me.

I guess what I’m trying to say here is that you should never let people be the judge of you. Be who you are, stay true to yourself, and don’t let another person’s judgement change who you are. – You are awesome in some way, no matter what “they” say!

So, now you know: When I spend the weekend alone at home, playing around on my computer, it’s not because I don’t have a life; It’s just because I’m “too much” for the average Joe and I  haven’t found any decent friends who are actually worth my time. And it doesn’t bother me one bit. If it did I’d be really sad and lonely right now, but I’m not. I’m quite happy, in fact.

It has been said that a change is as good as a holiday, and damn, I need a holiday! For quite some time now I’ve had this urge to cut my hair, go back to my natural hair color and keep a soft, classic, moppy, bed-head look instead of the emo-fag hair I’ve been walking around with for the past year.

I’m proud to announce that I’m now back to my natural hair color, with shorter, easier to manage hair that doesn’t scream EMO-GAY-LOOK-AT-MY-HAIR-GAY-GAY-EMO-FAGGOT-EMO. I now have a much more relaxed hairstyle. So relaxed, in fact, that it looks like I just got out of bed. Have a look and tell me what you think…

My hair is at a really convenient length right now, there’s a lot that I can do with it – It all depends on how I style it in the mornings, so I’ll be playing around with it a lot throughout the next few weeks.

On my way home from the salon, I decided to stop over at the mall for a little bit of shopping. I really wanted to get new shoes and a new pair of jeans, but I ended up buying a new shirt as well. I’m getting really good at holding back now, not spending more than what I should. In the past I would go to the mall for a soda and come back with an entirely new wardrobe. Things are different now.

A question often asked, and sure; I’ve got a well prepared “elevator speech” which allows me to share many details about my professional life in a single sentence, but I feel limited by many online communities who only provide me with a limited character line or a list of drop down professions. The truth is that I don’t like to define myself by a single role. I could say I’m any and all of the following:

• Actor / Model
• Author / Writer
• Singer / Songwriter
• Professional Blogger
• Entrepreneur
• Fashion Designer
• Graphic Designer
• Website Designer
• Online Marketer
• Social Media Specialist
• Advertising Agent
• PR Specialist
• Office Admin / Clerk
• Events Coordinator
• and more…

These are *some* of the things I find myself doing – picking only one would feel as if I’m neglecting or throwing others away. Many mentors say that it is important to focus on one thing only, and to make a success of that one thing, but why does that one thing have to be defined by choosing only one of these traditional, limited roles? I’ve been trying to decide on a proper word for my profession for the past two years because each time I refer to myself as only one of the above, I am in fact hiding all the  others – not cool!

For a while I’ve simply played with the titles “Founder” and “Owner” of DAVIDVENTER.NET – But those aren’t descriptive enough for my liking. Do I call myself “multitalented” and risk being mistaken for someone who’s not focussed? – I’m going nuts here trying to find the right title while on the other hand I’m thinking; Why label myself or limit myself to one role? Unfortunately our current society and way of life requires us to specify our roles if we are to be taken seriously. I’ve walked around with the title of “Creative Director” and “CEO” for a few years when I was running Vervean Media. Some friends have suggested that I keep this title, but it feels too formal.

For now, I’ll just refer to myself as a “Blogger” until a more appropriate word has been discovered – Professional blogging does require multiple talents, unless of course you outsource many aspects of your blog. DAVIDVENTER.NET is a one-man show, I do everything here, so I guess it would be socially  and professionally appropriate to label myself a blogger, right? I’m so much more than that…

What am I? What do I do? – I am a new breed, title undefined, a free spirit who will not stay locked down by one label. I will not neglect all my talents and abilities because society wants me to have one pre-defined role. I am free. I am David Venter. What exactly is it that I do? I do Life! – What would you label that?

Nothing is permanent in this world, not even our troubles.

Fallen flowers can’t grow back on the tree, but if the root is strong new flowers certainly can.

Life is not about what you could not do so far, it is what you can still.

Never hate people who are jealous of you, instead love them because they’re the ones who think you are better than them.

Silent  lips may avoid many problems, but smiling lips may solve many problems.

So, always have a smile on your face in this beautiful journey called “LIFE”…

Monday morning, 6 AM – Still awake. I really do have the strangest sleeping patterns. I should be getting up now, not going to sleep. But, here I am sitting in bed with the laptop, writing and trying to catch up with my work back-log while fighting the urge to fall asleep. I’ve neglected my blog for the past week because my boyfriend came over to spend a couple of days with me. We rarely see each other, so when we do actually get together everything else comes to a screeching halt.

In addition to the world being on pause while my boyfriend was here; I’ve also been feeling very lazy lately. Laziness is never a good thing, so I’m searching for extra inspiration to put me back on track. Maybe I just need a holiday, a real holiday away from everything, not just a break at home. If you’ve stalked me on Foursquare then you’ll know that as much as I would love to travel, I rarely go anywhere.

I’ve come to the realization that I need to start actively seeking professional opportunities again because my empty wallet is just not hot. I am craving shopping and travelling more than I am craving penis and that means: A LOT! Something needs to happen soon before I go absolutely insane.  Guess I’ll be spamming the agencies again this week for modeling, acting and promotional work. Wish me luck.

A little fairy told me that some queens have been gossiping about my refusing to speak Afrikaans even though my entire family is Afrikaans. Yes I’ve been home-schooled in an english school my entire life but why do I refuse to speak Afrikaans when my entire family is Afrikaans and why do I have the American English accent? – Rumor says I’m just pretentious but it’s time to set the record straight…

I’m sure that you’re well aware of South Africa’s history through the Apartheid era where the dutch (now Afrikaans) folk who came to colonize Africa looked upon the Black  folk as lower life forms. I don’t need to go into detail, you should know the story. If not: Just fucking google it.

Wow, 10,000+ micro-blog updates since I’ve joined the twitter-verse, that’s A LOT of tweeting. On the contrary, a lot of you who’ve been on twitter for a much shorter period have tweeted much more than me; but the 10k mark is a huge deal for me and I dedicate this milestone to a very inspiring person: Bryan Grey Yambao of Bryanboy.com

Bryanboy is a huge inspiration to me, and if you’ve been following my blog then you’ll already know about my obsession with this fabulous gaysian. I used to be the kind of person who often struggled following my own way, always listening to other’s feedback about what they think I should be doing instead of doing what I love to do. The reason why I have dedicated this occasion to Bryan, is because through his works, he has encouraged me to return to my true passion and to fight for what I want in spite of other’s lack of belief in my chosen path. Often I’m asked; “Why the Fashion Obsession?”, especially from those who do not necessarily see the beauty in fashion.

Fashion to me is the greatest art; a form of beauty, individualism and self-expression. Fashion gives the ability to uniquely express ourselves through the artwork of others. Wearing a designer garment is like wearing a painting from a famous artist although, with fashion you get to combine the artwork of different artists on one canvas (yourself) through which you express your own beauty and creativity.

Do you enjoy looking at a beautiful paining? Then why not enjoy looking at a beautiful garment?

Fashion is art! Wearing fashion and being creative in what you put on your body is showing your appreciation of art and beauty.

Fashion on a person is a living, moving, breathing painting, and you live your life in it. Fashion is art. Art is beauty. Beauty is life’s expression. What fashion means to me is life.
