Can you imagine being without a computer for 24 days? That’s how long it’s been since I’ve last been able to do anything productive on my own computer. On the 25th of October my iMac was damaged beyond repair and I’ve been on the hunt for a new computer ever since. After much deliberation I’ve decided to look into getting a MacBook Pro instead of another iMac. As a blogger, it’s important for me to have access to a computer all the time, even when on the go, so a laptop computer offering greater mobility is obviously the better option.
The 13″ MacBook Pro with Retina Display seemed like the perfect computer due to its compact form factor. But unfortunately the 13″ was not yet available here in South Africa so I decided that I would wait for it. Eventually I got tired of waiting and I’ve had some concerns over the fact that the 13″ model has no dedicated graphics card. I work with graphics and video and I do a fair amount of online gaming from time to time so I really wanted something which packed a little more power, as well as offer greater mobility than my previous mac. My impatience and performance concerns pushed me more towards the 15″ MacBook Pro with Retina Display which is already available here in South Africa and packs a lot more power. The 15″ offers the best of both worlds; great mobility because of it’s light weight and super slim form factor and great power with the Intel Quad Core i7 processor, plenty of RAM, super fast flash storage and a powerful, dedicated graphics card.
I’m very happy to announce that I am now sitting here and writing this very article on my brand new 15″ MacBook Pro with Retina Display. It truly is a great computer and I’m very satisfied with my purchase. Those who say that the Retina Display is “over-rated” have either never worked with one or they’re simply jealous for not being able to get one because it’s definitely not over-rated. In fact, I think that this entire machine is highly under-rated in comparison to what else is out there at the moment.
Without any further ado, I present to you my new baby. Geeks gather ’round and prepare yourself for some fresh Apple unboxing porn… (Collection and Unboxing Date: November 15, 2012)
If you’re in the market for a new MacBook Pro but you’re on the fence about the retina vs. non-retina model, I highly recommend paying the extra premium for the retina model because it is a powerful work of art that won’t disappoint. I’m looking forward to the next few years with this powerful machine by my side. No longer chained to a desk, I now have the freedom to go anywhere, do anything and blog from anywhere without having to leave my digital life behind.
And just for the record… No this isn’t a sponsored post and yes I am an Apple fan boy. But I have reason to be. Apple products are exceptionally well designed, user friendly, issue-free, powerful, reliable and have a much longer life-cycle than any other tech gadget brand out there. Apple all the way, baby! Haters please GTFO.
