How to NOT get bitten or attacked….in Canmore!

I’ve been chatting to a friend from Canmore about vacationing in the Canadian Rockies. In case you ever consider vacationing there; I have some useful information to share with you…

Canmore has lots of incredible nature. Scenery which will make your jaw drop, eyes pop and will have you snapping pictures until your pointer finger fatigues! Within the beautiful nature, is lots of untamed wildlife. It is paramount to remember, we are in fact intruders on this land, originally ruled by the wild. Roving freely amongst the splendor of the Canadian Rockies brings us face to face with the force of nature. And although nature is usually on our side, it’s important to be aware, so you can stay and play safely!

Animals

Large mammals populate the Canadian Rockies, and are one of the things which attract people there. There are two sets of animals which command the wild; prey and predator species. The prey species present are deer, elk, mountain goats and moose. They can be every bit as dangerous as the predator species, because of their sheer size and weight! As well as they will do anything to surprise.

It’s important to keep your distance and watch from afar so you don’t experience a damaging wildlife encounter.

The predator species of Canmore include black bears, grizzly bears, cougars, lynx, bobcats, wolverine, coyotes and wolves! A visit to the forested wild lands of the Rockies is a combination of awe and fear. It sometimes makes it difficult to take pleasure in an outing if you are threatened by a predator. Luckily, the reality is, most of the large mammals fear man, unless they are hungry or you threaten their cubs.

Be loud, keep to yourself, and bring some bear spray when you venture into the wilderness.

Bugs

You will be happy to note, Canmore has few mosquitoes and no black flies. The only exception is if the Spring is a wet one. Canmore usually has a late winter storm near the end of June, which usually cures any potential mosquito problems. Midsummer is when the bugs come, specifically deer flies; which are similar to horseflies and very slow in nature. Deer flies do not sting, they bite. Simply slather on some bug repellent and you should be fine.

The thick forested wildlife is a perfect place for ticks. Walkers and hikers should keep their eyes out for these pests during the early spring months of late March through June. Pay close attention to your attire and do a detailed body inspection post trip.

After your fun in the forest, stay a while in any of the vrbo Canmore pet friendly accommodations.

A Trip to the Middle of Nowhere

I haven’t seen my grandparents since they’ve moved out of our home a few months go. My mother had planned to visit them this past weekend and I decided to go with her. She’s gone to visit them a few times since they’ve moved out but I’ve avoided the trips because I really didn’t feel like being stuck in the middle of nowhere with a bunch of Jesus freaks and nothing to do.

But, I do love my grandparents very much so I decided to go with my mother this time around.

They seem as happy as they can be, in their current circumstances and I quite enjoyed spending some time with them.. More pictures and details after the break. CLICK CLICK CLICK >>>

Paris Is Following In The Family Tradition

Paris talks about continuing the family tradition of real estate and what her grandfather had to say about his first granddaughter opening luxury resorts at Azure Beach Club in the Philippines.” *

I don’t care what you think about Paris but, to me she is an inspiration! Very few have done or can do what she is capable of and above all the bad press she always manages to get back on top. Who cares if she made a sex tape or got busted for carrying drugs, none of those who complain or gossip about it are even remotely capable of doing or achieving any of her successes. Paris is a goddess of success and inspiration and I FUCKING LOVE HER! xoxo

Good Morning City of Johannesburg

good morning 249x332 Good Morning City of Johannesburg Good morning beautiful city of corruption and crime gold. I’m feeling surprisingly chirpy this morning and I’m not quite sure why. Perhaps it’s because I’m getting to see the African sunrise, eat a healthy breakfast in the morning instead of in the evening and give my pale skin some much-needed vitamin D.

It really does feel good to actually get a good night’s rest during night-time. I will however, probably return to my Pacific Time schedule again next week since I’ve got a few important “to-do’s” in my Second Life schedule.

Yesterday I had an interesting discussion with a new colleague and friend. By giving him time management and organizational advice I felt an urge to re-evaluate my situation. Not that I haven’t been taking my own advice, I’ve just been slacking a bit and needed a good kick up the ass to get myself 100% focussed again. And what better kick up the ass can one get than by giving someone else advice about a certain subject, evaluating yourself in the process and realizing that you haven’t been 100% focussed in practicing what you preach. So thank you dear friend for not only coming to me for advice but for making me realize that I need to stop slacking and start taking my own advice .

I’ve been quite organized lately but not nearly as organized or time-efficient as I could be when following my own advice. But, isn’t that usually the case? We rarely practice what we preach and when we do preach our statements generally sound easier said than done. Life and emotion get’s in the way and we start to lose focus, thus procrastinating and not following our own guidance. Looking back over the past few months it feels like I’ve only been taking a really small percentage of my own advice, which really isn’t good. The time has come for me to start putting in 100% of my efforts.

My vision board is getting a much-needed refresh, I’m digging up all my time management course notes and re-evaluating my entire monthly, weekly and daily schedule so that I can stop sitting here feeling sorry for myself about financial and emotional drama and instead start putting all my energy into moving closer towards my goals. After all, a life without progression towards clearly defined goals is nothing but continuous stagnation.

I hope that you all have a fabulous Thursday and thank you very much for reading my blog! Much love to you. And as always, stay tuned for more.

Safari at Sun City (Pilanesburg – 28 April)

A couple of days ago I decided to take a break from work and to get out of this concrete jungle so some place more calm and open, a place where I can clear my thoughts and relax. Pilanesburg is just what I needed!

Safari at Sun City (Pilanesburg 28 April)

The first few hours of the trip were quite eventful! Just as we entered the gates of Pilanesburg we came across an entire pride of lions chasing after a warthog. Unfortunately we could only see them through binoculars and they were way too far to get a decent photo.

The rest of the day was quite peaceful, enjoying the sun and relaxing at various camp sites and hides; that was until we started making our way back from the Safari trip and we were blocked from going anywhere by a whole group of Elephants standing in the road and refusing to move our of the shade spot. We could’ve reversed but unfortunately another elephant came into the road behind us. We sat stuck there for about an hour before we could eventually make our way back, (See images on my Flickr Page)

On the final drive back we came across a nice huge White Rhino right next to the road and managed to take some pretty good photo’s.

Throughout the entire Safari we have seen various Lions, Elephants, Antelope, Springbuck, Giraffe, Kudu, Wildebeest, Rhino, Warthog, Turtles, reptiles, birds, etc…

It was truly a relaxing and uplifting experience. I really needed the break. Maybe next time I’ll go here to get even farther away from the daily norm.
