Too often, I get people coming to me, complaining about other people or situations. If you have a problem with a person or situation, discuss it with them directly — That’s the only way to sort it out. Complaining to me (or to anyone other than the source) about it, is not only counter-productive, but also entirely pointless.
By complaining about someone to another person, you’re just making yourself feel more frustrated in the process and labelling yourself as someone who talks badly of others behind their back!
I have the firm belief that if someone tells me about their problems with another person, they’re probably telling that same person (or someone else) about their problems with me. All of this is entirely pointless! Nothing good can come of it; no solutions, no progress, no change, no improvement.
If you have a problem, fix it by directly addressing the person that is causing the problem and if that doesn’t resolve the situation, then it’s time to cut that person out of your life, project or situation. Please don’t share negative reports unless they are directly related to the person that you’re sharing them with and only do so if it can actually improve the situation. We can all learn a little something from Pooh…
